On the Trail of the Buffalo Chase

  • Trailhead - Photo by Rebekah Neufeld
Location: Grand Valley Provincial Park
Difficulty: Easy-Moderate
Distance: 1.5km return
Ecosystem types: Aspen-oak Forest, Grassland

The first portion of the trail is a short, grassy loop through a reconstructed bison pound with numerous interpretive panels that tell the tale of bison on the prairies and the importance of the site, which was used for hundreds of years as a trapping grounds for bison . The trail then crosses the campground and climbs up the valley slope to a viewing tower and look-out points that provide tree-top views of the Assiniboine River Valley. The trail to the tower is narrow and uneven in places, with abundant poison ivy.
