Hogsback Trail

  • Hogsback - Photo by Rebekah Neufeld
Location: Spruce Woods Provincial Park
Difficulty: Easy-Moderate
Distance: 1.2km Return
Ecosystem types: Sandhill prairie, Fens, Freshwater springs

This is a short trail that takes you from the Hogsback viewpoint along a narrow sand ridge between the Assiniboine River and a deep gully created by the erosion of sand by underground freshwater springs. The trail gives an unobstructed view of the Assiniboine River valley, spring-fed streams, and a tamarack fen in the gully. The end of the trail descends down a steep, sandy slope to a beaver-dammed pool.
